Michéle began playing the violin at the age of five in Port Elizabeth; her teachers have included Herman Becker, Neil McKay and Jack de Wet.  She played in an amateur orchestra in Port Elizabeth before coming to Cape Town to study at UCT.   She joined the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra in 1980, and has been a member of the orchestra ever since. She was the first person of colour to play in a professional orchestra in South Africa. Michéle, has been involved with the CPO’s outreach and education programme for many years.
