Marvin Weavers, co-ordinator of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Youth Education and Development programme, has been building on the CPO’s programmes since March 2017, programmes that include the CPO Music Academy, the CP Youth Orchestra, the CP Youth Wind Ensemble and the training ensemble. A violist who studied at Stellenbosch University and has played in the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, for six years the CPYO’s string quartet for four and the New Apostolic Church Orchestra since he was 21, Marvin has been involved in many aspects of the CPO, including an internship and managing logistics at the CPO’s annual Nederburg New Year’s Eve concerts. He fell in love with the recorder and church music, joined the New Apostolic Church choir, changed to violin and joined the Symphony Orchestra, entered at the age of 13, the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre, all the time playing violin. Then at the age of 17 he discovered the viola. He has completed a Business Management Diploma at the College of Cape Town and is now studying for a Project Management Diploma at CPUT.
