Annelize de Villiers joined the CPO in March, 2017, as sub-principal clarinet, is delighted to be with the CPO. In fact, “The orchestra inspired and motivated me as a child and especially during my student years at UCT.”
Her clarinet tuition began at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow when she was 11 with Charlene Saayman, and continued with Becky Steltzner at the SA College of Music at UCT, where she graduated with a B Mus and distinction. This lead to studies at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) in Switzerland where she received a Master of Arts in Music Performance under the tuition of clarinettist Frédéric Rapin in 2013 and further courses on the bass and historical clarinet. With awards at the ATKV Muziq National Solo Competition and an ensemble win at the Philip Schock Chamber Music Competition, she gained experience in the SA National Youth Orchestra, at the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival, and also when in Switzerland she played not only in Lausanne but toured to France. Annelize returned to South Africa and became co-principal and e-flat clarinettist of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban in 2014. She is very proud and excited to be a member of the CPO. “I am looking forward to the diverse projects that the CPO is part of both on and off of the stage.
