Appointed principal conductor and artistic leader of the Magogo Chamber Orchestra Holland in 2006, ARJAN TIEN is internationally in demand as a guest-conductor, conducting well over 45 programmes a year. In 1998 he made his appearance with the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, which resulted in ongoing invitations from that and all other South African orchestras. In 2001 he made a successful début in the summer season of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra. In October 2005 he released a highly acclaimed CD with the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa of the Alto Rhapsody by Brahms and other works, featuring Sibongile Khumalo as soloist.
BEN SCHOEMAN has been described by critics as the greatest South African pianist of his generation. He recently became the first South African in history to win the coveted first grand prize and gold medal in the 2008 UNISA Vodacom International Piano Competition in Pretoria, South Africa. This prize can be seen as the highlight of many years of success in his home country, where he won all of the national music competitions that he was eligible to enter, including the two UNISA Overseas Music Scholarships, the Southern African Music Rights Organisation Overseas Scholarship and the UNISA National Piano Competition. JAN HUGO was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He distinguished himself in local arts festivals and eisteddfods and passed all examinations for practical piano and theory with distinction. At just 13 years old, Jan was invited to further his studies in Italy where he became a student of Francesco Cipolletta at the Instituto Superiore di Studi Musicali "Orazio Vecchi" in Modena, Italy, passing all his exams cum laude. He played various solo recitals in Modena and Bologna in Italy, as well as recitals in Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg.
