Barry Ross is a postdoctoral research fellow at the South African College of Music at UCT, and is the founder of Firefinch Music. He completed his PhD at the Centre for Music and Science at the University of Cambridge, working on the neural relationship between music and the syntax of language. As an academic, he specialises in music cognition, but has also published research spanning the origins of human musicality to antiquarian sheet music collections. Barry has lectured extensively on the art music of the 20th century, as well as musical Romanticism, rock and popular music. He even a spent short stint lecturing analytic philosophy. He has written concert notes for over 300 concerts and twenty CDs. He founded Firefinch Music as a specialist marketing and consulting firm, to create novel monetisation ideas for both the classical and commercial music industries in Africa.
