Full Newsletter: Summer Symphony Season ends on high notes and Masidlale wins hearts again!

First up is the Cape Town Philharmonic Music Academy Wind Band which will play several works like Sleigh Ride by LeRoy Anderson; they will be followed by the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble, conducted by Faan Malan, in works from the Chick Corea’s Spain and the Grande Marche by Saint-Saëns; the Masidlale string and brass ensembles of young people from the townships ages 7 – 15 playing works like the first movement of a Haydn Trumpet Concerto and finally, under the direction of Brandon Phillips, the Cape Town Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will play the 1st movement of the 5th Violin Concerto by Mozart, featuring its concertmaster Joshua Louis, the Valse Triste by Sibelius and also the final movement of the 2nd Symphony by Sibelius. That’s all for starters!

The CPO, teachers to many of the young players, will join the CPYO in a rousing finale. The concert will be previewed in the morning of December 2 when they present a sample of the night’s fare to sick children at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
