The CPO’s July / August Symphony Season ends on a high note!

prettyyendeThe symphony concert where the multi award-winning singer Pretty Yende sung Canteloube’s Songs of the Auvergne was one of the highlights of the July/August season. Pretty had just returned from Moscow, where she scooped a top award at the prestigious Operalia 2011 competition. Ms Yende received a standing ovation from a full-house audience at Artscape Opera House. In Moscow she also won the Zarzuela Award and the Audience’s Choice Prize. The line-up for the second semester was exciting indeed. Apart from the array of first class soloists such as the Russian violinist Maria Solozobova and bandoneon player Lothar Hensel, South African born pianists Jan Hugo and Nina Schumann (who replaced Petronel Malan who fell ill before her South African concert tour) offered exhilarating performances under the batons of world-class conductors Nicholas Cleobury and Conrad van Alphen.
